Thrown forms predominate with slab construction used
for sculptural pieces sometimes in combination with
welded steel.

Glazes are soft blues with oxides and wax resist
decoration reflecting Ian's background as a painter.

The work is
strong and sculptural in form and while
functional, elevates the everyday serving of food and
drink to the ceremonial
.

The majority of the work made in the studio is stoneware fired to 1280 C using either the large 50 cubic foot propane fired kiln, designed and built by Ian, or a smaller propane kiln.

Raku is fired in a small kiln outside in the yard. The pots are removed from the kiln at 980 C and reduced and smoked in bins lined with paper and insulation to produce distinctive copper lustre and crackle glazes.
